Year 10 Interview Techniques Day
Year 10 students took part in Interview Techniques Day on Thursday 25 June 2015, organised by Gail Brown from Leicestershire Cares. The event was a success and students embraced the opportunity to be interviewed by volunteers from various companies such as;
- Hinckley & Rugby Building Society
- National Grid
- Charnwood Packaging Ltd
The Academy would like to say a hugh thank you to Leicestershire Cares and all the volunteers, for giving up their time to help prepare our students with the interview process.
Feedback comments from our Year 10 students after their interviews:
“I thought the interview was great because it gives everyone a chance of what to do for future interviews.”
“This gave me a really good idea of what to expect.”
“I found out a lot from coming to the interview. Also, it got me to know what interviews are like in the future.”
“This was very helpful and fun.”
Year 12 Educational Visit to the University of Oxford
We took a group of 19 students to the University of Oxford on 18th June. The students spent time finding out about the history of the University; what it was like to be a student from current students; the collegiate system; the application and interview process; had a tour of the St Edmund Hall; and took part in an interactive critical thinking exercise. We also enjoyed walking through Oxford, seeing some of the sights.
The students were true ambassadors for William Bradford Academy. Although a bit shy, they did ask some insightful questions during the question and answer session.
Some of the Oxford students were completing exams, and it was interesting for all of us from WBA to see these students wearing formal dress and gowns, with bow ties wandering around the city.
Our students have this to say about the visit:
‘I learnt the university was 900 years old.’
‘I learnt that there was a wide variety of activities outside of the academic learning, e.g. Sports competitions.’
‘The insight into the Oxford interview process was surprisingly interesting.’
‘I am aware how much independent study will be required if I go to Uni.’
‘I am now considering Oxford as a university I want to go to.’
‘I really liked the idea of the college system.’
‘I learnt that you really have to think outside the box during interviews and talk confidently on what you think.’
Educational Residential to Spain
On Saturday 20 june 2015, thirty six WBA students set off for La Fosca in Spain on a coach and spent 24 hours travelling to a fantastic week away. On arrival at the PGL site we settled in and then went to kayak and canoe on the sea and afterwards played beach sports. Throughout the week we then did PICO sailing and catamaran sailing as well as paddle boarding and body boarding a trip to the largest water park in spain and lots of team building evening activities. There was a shop on site for snacks and drinks and a pool hall and disco for the evening. After an amazing week we set back off on a 24 hour journey back to England.
“The students were extremely enthusiastic and engaged in all activities offered. All students thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of what was offered with each activity. It was a pleasure to take WBA students on this residential and it was a great experience for all.” Ms Osborne
